Cooksmill Green Congregational Church

Cooksmill Green Congregational Church is situated in the parish of Rowell.

Within the sleepy little Essex hamlet of Cooksmill Green lies a vibrant church with a thriving Sunday School and an active Community Choir of nearly forty members. Known as the “People of the Green”, the choir is an eclectic body of people who enjoy singing both sacred and secular works and regularly performs in Roxwell Church and Roxwell Village Hall, along with many other locations throughout Essex.

Yet, the People of the Green is more than just the choir, it encompasses the whole body of the church, which is an independent Congregational Church of many years standing. Not having a permanent minister is seen as one of the strengths of the church, and enables invitations to be extended to ministers and lay people from all church traditions to come and lead services at Cooksmill Green.

One of the aims of the People of the Green concerts is to help other churches and charitable groups to raise money for themselves and other good causes, which can range from ongoing charitable works to disaster recovery appeals and everything in between such as organisations offering homlessness support and animal welfare groups.

The church also partners with Roxwell Church and other churches locally to hold occasional joint services and events.
